Project Outcome: Extended Essay in Physics
Project Description: This Extended Essay (EE) investigated how the thickness of a conductive pipe wall affected the magnetic drag force acting on a permanent magnet as it fell through the pipe. The experiment explored the interaction between the motion of the magnet and the induced eddy currents in the conductive pipe. The aim was to demonstrate how varying the pipe wall thickness influenced the magnet’s falling speed and the strength of the opposing magnetic force. By measuring the magnet’s motion and analyzing the changes in drag force, the study provided insights into the relationship between wall thickness and the strength of the induced electromagnetic forces, contributing to the understanding of magnetic damping and its applications in electrodynamics.
